Unlike most of other alpha-herpesviruses, Marek's disease virus (MDV) does not produce great quantities of enveloped particles in culture and in chickens, except in epithelial cells of the feather follicle epithelium (FFE), which release high level of infectious particles into the environment.
My interest focuses on the viral-host interactions responsible for this skin specificity. More precisely, I aim at identifying the molecular basis behind the cell-type restriction which limits/favors viral shedding by FFE cells.
